Why short stories?
A word is easier to understand when it belongs to a sentence, a conversation or a small event. Our reading materials put everyday language into context, with pinyin and English close by when you need them.
What you can use today
The first public collection offers free short readings, vocabulary lists and self-check questions. These pages work without registration.
What is being developed
We are building guided topic lessons, sentence audio, practice questions and a personal review area. These features are not part of this first public release yet.
How these readings are prepared
Each reading focuses on an everyday situation. Chinese sentences are paired with pronunciation support and English meaning, followed by a small vocabulary list and questions answered directly by the text.
These short texts are designed for practice rather than to reproduce natural conversation in every detail. Pinyin can show spoken tone changes for 一 and 不. The vocabulary list separates syllables to help new readers; sentence pinyin groups familiar words.
Our materials
Stories in this collection are original learning texts. Translations explain the intended meaning of each sentence. Any difficulty guidance is an editorial suggestion, not an official examination score or certification.
MandarinTrail is not affiliated with HSK examination organizers. Future exam practice will be identified as independent practice.
